For more than two decades Greg Block has managed the strategic communications, branding, public relations, marketing, community relations and public affairs for organizations in a variety of sectors, including higher education, government, real estate, land development, law, technology, and hospitality.
As Senior Press Secretary and Public Policy Manager for the Mayor of the San Diego, Greg oversaw media relations and communications strategy for the city on issues of public safety, homelessness, mobility, infrastructure, water, climate, and the environment. He was also responsible for developing the city’s first set of regulations of the shared dockless mobility industry. Concurrent with that effort, Greg played a key role in the creation of dedicated on-street parking spaces across the city for dockless bikes and scooters.
Prior to joining the Mayor’s office, Greg spent more than eight years at San Diego State University. As Chief Communications Officer there, he was responsible for the overall brand of the oldest and largest public research university in the region, including marketing and advertising, media relations, social media, web development, and online publishing, community relations, and alumni magazine and video production.
Greg has worked in both the public and private sectors, as well as in-house and as outside communications counsel. He was communications specialist for the City of San Diego Water Dept. and communications manager for The Corky McMillin Cos., where he managed communications for one of the country’s most successful military base-redevelopment projects.
Greg is Chair of the Center City Business District Board of Directors and a member of the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce Transportation and Land Development committee. Greg earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism with a public relations emphasis from San Diego State University.
